IndieHelm ("we," "us," or "our") operates the IndieHelm mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Account information: email address, display name, handle (username), bio, profile photo, and location (optional).
- Content you upload: video files, thumbnails, film metadata (title, description, hashtags, genre), and any commentary audio tracks.
- Payment information: when you purchase premiere tickets or receive tips, payment is processed through Stripe. We do not store your full card number — Stripe handles all payment data under their own privacy policy.
- Communications: messages you send through in-app direct messaging, live chat during screenings, and comments on films.
- Push notification token: a device token used to send you push notifications (likes, comments, followers, tips, premiere reminders).
We also collect information automatically, including:
- Usage data: films viewed, watch progress, likes, saves, and queue actions.
- Device data: platform (iOS/Android), app version, and general device type. We do not collect your device's unique advertising identifier.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To provide, operate, and improve the Service.
- To process premiere ticket purchases and tip payments.
- To send push notifications you have opted into (new likes, comments, follows, tips, premiere reminders, and live premiere alerts).
- To show you a personalized film feed based on your viewing activity.
- To enforce our community guidelines and Terms of Service.
- To respond to your customer support requests.
- To send you product updates and announcements (you may opt out at any time).
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:
- With service providers: Supabase (database and authentication), Mux (video transcoding and delivery), Stripe (payment processing), Expo (push notification delivery), and similar infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf.
- Publicly visible information: your display name, handle, profile photo, bio, and any films you upload as "public" are visible to all users of the Service and via the public web player (indiehelm.com/f/<id>).
- Legal requirements: we may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
- Business transfers: if IndieHelm is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention).
5. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security on our database, and Stripe's PCI-compliant payment infrastructure. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
IndieHelm is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@indiehelm.com and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: update inaccurate or incomplete data via your profile settings.
- Deletion: request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
- Portability: request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt-out of notifications: disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.

8. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., social media platforms for sharing). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
